The Catherine Pass Trail ascends 1200 feet to the Pass, overlooking Lake Catherine and the Brighton Ski Resort. Dark pink stalks of Elephant Head wildflower carpet the meadow. Back country ski terrain, accessible from Alta’s Supreme lift, is viewable from the trail.
The town of Alta, originally a mining town, today a ski town, helps host the Wasatch Wildflower Festival in late July every summer. The Albion Basin, headed by stark Devil’s Castle, is plush with Indian paintbrush, bluebell, dusty maiden, penstemon, Richardson’s geranium and Columbine. Coyote, deer, and mountain goat have graced the Basin.
